Oxfam Joins partners, respond to Typhoid outbreak

Oxfam in Zimbabwe is currently assisting the government of Zimbabwe in the Joint Typhoid response in Harare through a water quality monitoring exercise, Hygiene Promotion and distribution of hygiene products.
Hygiene promotion volunteers have been trained and currently conducting hygiene promotion and distributing Water guard and Information, Education and Communication materials to over 4500 Households in the Mbare District. In addition, hygiene promotion has also been conducted in schools with Water guard and buckets distributed through the support of Welt Hunger Hilfe. Over 3250 school children have been reached with hygiene messages.
Plans are underway to target more urban and Peri- urban areas where boreholes and other water sources are contaminated to ensure that all households in these locations are receiving the resources they need to access clean water.
Going forward Hygiene Promotion (door to door), Water sampling and distribution of Water guard remains a priority. Follow up of households that are receiving Water guard to check the use including testing of Free Residual Chlorine will be conducted.
